Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install welding and fabrication components compatible with Ghost Controls swing and slide operators across Los Angeles, with same-day service available for most residential calls. Typical installed pricing runs $280 – $620 depending on gate material, access constraints, and whether we’re reinforcing existing ironwork or fabricating a new mounting bracket from scratch. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover the problem when their Ghost Controls operator starts clicking or straining without moving the gate, or when they notice fresh rust bleeding through cracked welds at the actuator mounting points after a rainy winter.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

This work covers the full Ghost Controls residential line: TSS1 and TDS2 single and dual swing systems, the AXWK premium series, and the SL100 slide operator. The critical compatibility point is the mounting footprint. Ghost Controls uses a 4-bolt pattern on the T-series operators but shifted to a wider 6-inch spread on the AXWK line released in 2019. We’ve seen Los Angeles homeowners order universal brackets online that fit the operator head but leave the arm geometry wrong by half an inch, which burns out the motor in six months.

To identify your part, check the silver spec label on the operator housing. The model prefix tells us the bolt pattern; the suffix tells us voltage and arm length. For welding work specifically, we need to know your gate material: steel tube, wrought iron, or aluminum. Each requires different rod and amperage, and aluminum gates in Los Angeles coastal zones need 5356 alloy rod to resist salt corrosion.

We carry both OEM Ghost Controls mounting hardware and fabricated equivalents built from 3/16-inch hot-rolled steel plate. The OEM brackets fit precisely but cost more and ship slower. Our fabricated versions match the critical dimensions exactly and carry the same one-year guarantee. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • Operator clicks but gate won’t move. The mounting bracket has cracked at the weld, so the arm pushes against itself instead of transferring force to the gate. In Los Angeles, we see this most often on south-facing gates where thermal expansion cycles stress the steel daily.
  • Gate drifts open or closed when it should hold position. The limit-switch mounting tab has broken its weld, so the operator loses its reference points. Ghost Controls relies on physical limit switches rather than electronic encoding, so this tab is load-bearing, not just a sensor perch.
  • Fresh rust streaks below any welded joint. A crack has opened in the weld or heat-affected zone, letting moisture wick into the gap. Los Angeles may not get heavy rain, but morning marine layer condensation does the same damage over time, especially within three miles of the coast.
  • Arm binds or screeches during the first or last six inches of travel. The fabricated pivot bracket has twisted out of square, usually from a previous collision or from undersized material flexing under load. Ghost Controls arms need parallel alignment within 1/8 inch or the linear actuator fights itself.
  • Gate post wobbles when the operator runs. The concrete footing has separated from the steel post sleeve, or the sleeve itself has cracked at its base weld. This is structural, not just operator-related, and it will destroy any Ghost Controls motor you hang on it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range What’s Included
Bracket reinforcement weld (existing material) $280 – $380 Grind, prep, weld, prime, and paint match
Fabricated replacement bracket, steel gate $340 – $480 Custom-cut plate, drilled and tapped, welded, painted
Aluminum gate bracket (5356 rod, coastal spec) $420 – $620 Material, TIG weld, etch primer, color-matched topcoat
Post sleeve repair / footing weld $380 – $550 Excavate to sound metal, weld sleeve extension, re-pour footing

These are installed prices. We deliver a written price before any work starts, and that number does not move. The range reflects material thickness, access (steep hillside driveways in the Hollywood Hills add time), and whether we can weld in place or need to remove the gate to the shop. Every welding job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a crack reopens or a weld fails within the year, we come back free and fix it.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of things a Los Angeles homeowner can safely check. Tighten the four operator mounting bolts with a socket wrench; if they’re loose, that may explain the clicking. Look for rust streaks and photograph any cracks you find. Check that the gate moves freely by hand with the operator disconnected.

What you should not do: weld or grind on a gate connected to a powered Ghost Controls operator. The control board can be damaged by welding current even with the breaker off, and the high-tension spring-assist systems on heavier gates can release without warning. We studied this trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and we’ve still seen experienced techs get caught by stored energy in a torsion-assist swing gate.

If you’ve got a crack, a broken bracket, or a gate that’s started fighting its operator, call us at (469) 530-2485. We’ll give you a written price and a real arrival window.
